SES partners with ESA for satellite broadband initiative

Luxembourg-based satellite company SES has inked a deal with the European Space Agency or ESA for a satellite broadband initiative that will focus in the technology’s innovation.

According to this deal, SES will be working on the development of an array of broadband services that will be used for ESA’s Advanced Research in Telecommunications Systems (Artes) Applications Projects. The Artes program aims to support the use of satellite technology for disaster recovery, aviation services like in-flight satellite internet, broadcasting applications, and mobile communications.

SES will be encouraging the use of satellite broadband for various applications, and firms and companies taking part in the Artes program will enjoy preferential rates from the satellite operator’s Astra 3B bird, which covers the Middle East and Pan-Europe.
